Feeders / Tape Feeder
Advances carrier tape and peels the cover film to expose each part.
Also known as: SMT tape feeder, reel feeder, electric feeder
The workhorse pick-and-place feeder. It indexes carrier tape by its sprocket holes, advancing one pocket per pick and peeling the cover tape into a take-up. Feeders are sized to the tape width (8, 12, 16, 24 mm…) and set to the pocket pitch.
On the machine
Most parts come on tape & reel, so a machine's feeder bank is mostly tape feeders. More feeder slots = fewer reload stops per job.
