Pick-and-place nozzles: which size for which part
The nozzle lifts each part off the feeder — the wrong size drops parts or fouls neighbours.
A pick-and-place grabs each component with a vacuum nozzle. Too small and it can't hold the part; too big and it fouls neighbours or covers a marking the camera needs. Matching nozzle to part is a real part of setup.
The common set
Most desktop machines use the Juki 500-series: 502 (0.7 mm) for the smallest chips, up to 506 (5 mm rubber) for QFP. See them all on the nozzles page.
Rules of thumb
- ·0402–0603 chips → 0.7–1.0 mm (502 / 503)
- ·0805–1206 and SOT-23 → 1.0–1.5 mm (503 / 504)
- ·SOIC, SSOP, small LEDs → 3.5 mm rubber (505)
- ·QFP and large ICs → 5 mm rubber (506)
Match it to the package
Every package page lists its size, so you can pick a nozzle from the part's footprint. Big flat parts want a compliant rubber tip; tiny chips want the smallest hard tip that still seals.
